Point & Strip Photocell

Point & Strip photocell is an optical safety sensor system used in elevator doors to prevent trapping and collision risks. It continuously scans the door movement area and stops or reopens the door when an obstacle is detected.

Point & strip photocell systems are among the most critical safety components used in elevator doors to ensure passenger safety. They continuously monitor the door opening using optical detection to eliminate the risk of trapping, collision, or injury during the door closing process.

A point photocell detects obstacles through a single beam at a specific level, while a strip photocell creates multiple detection points along the entire door height, providing full-area scanning. This allows safe detection of all types of obstacles, including children, wheelchairs, luggage, or objects close to the floor. In modern elevator standards, strip photocells are widely preferred and in many projects considered mandatory.

The photocell system consists of a transmitter (TX), receiver (RX), connection cables, and a control module. It creates an invisible infrared light barrier across the door opening, forming a continuously active safety zone. When the light beam is interrupted, the system instantly sends a signal to the elevator door control unit, causing the door to stop or reopen.

Point & strip photocells provide reliable performance even in buildings with heavy usage thanks to their resistance to electrical interference and stable operating characteristics. Their compact and slim design allows aesthetic integration into door profiles. This feature provides easy installation in both new elevator systems and modernization projects.

They are widely used in residential elevators, shopping centers, hospitals, hotels, and public buildings. Photocell systems are essential equipment for compliance with elevator safety regulations and play a vital role in protecting passenger safety.
