Hydraulic Buffer

Hydraulic buffer is a safety component used in elevator systems to absorb high kinetic energy during emergency or limit stops of the cabin or counterweight through a hydraulic system, and is mandatory for high-speed elevators.

Hydraulic buffers are advanced safety devices used in high-speed elevator systems to ensure the safe stopping of the cabin or counterweight in the elevator pit. Compared to mechanical or elastomer buffers, they have a much higher energy absorption capacity and are indispensable especially in high speed–load combinations.

The hydraulic system restricts the oil flow through piston movement during impact, converting kinetic energy into heat energy in a controlled manner. This ensures that the stopping process occurs gradually rather than suddenly. Sudden loads on the cabin, counterweight, and guide rail system are minimized.

Thanks to the robust steel body, sealed hydraulic structure, and protected piston mechanism, hydraulic buffers provide long-term and reliable performance. With different stroke lengths and capacity options, they offer suitable solutions for various speed and load classes. This flexibility provides advantages in both new installations and modernization projects.

Hydraulic buffers are generally used together with an adjustable buffer stand. This combination ensures that the buffer is positioned at the correct height and in compliance with standards. Proper installation directly affects the performance and safety level of the hydraulic buffer.

According to elevator safety standards, the use of hydraulic buffers is mandatory in systems operating above certain speed limits. These buffers are not only spare parts; they are fundamental safety components that ensure passenger safety, system integrity, and regulatory compliance.
