Compensation Chain

Compensation chain is an elevator component specially designed for pit applications that reduces tension on the ropes and drive system by balancing the load between the cabin and the counterweight in elevator systems.

Compensation Chain is a critical mechanical component used particularly in medium and high-rise elevator systems to balance the mass difference between the cabin and the counterweight. As the elevator cabin moves up or down, uneven loads occur in the system due to the change in rope lengths. The compensation chain balances these load differences and ensures more stable system operation.

Installed at the bottom of the elevator shaft, the compensation chain is fixed to the lower points of the cabin and counterweight with appropriate connection equipment. During operation, the flexible loop formed by the chain adapts to the movement of the system and reduces the effect of sudden load changes. This structure helps prevent excessive tension on the drive machine, ropes, and pulleys.

Compensation chains reduce vibration and contribute to quieter and more comfortable elevator operation. They also improve energy efficiency by allowing the motor to operate under a more balanced load. This helps optimize electricity consumption while extending the service life of mechanical components.

From an elevator safety perspective, the use of compensation chains is highly important. Installation is carried out by considering the minimum return distances and safe loop measurements specified for pit applications. When used with appropriate connection elements and cable mesh grips, the chain operates in a stable and controlled manner.

Compensation Chain is a preferred solution not only for new elevator installations but also for modernization projects. As speed, number of floors, and carrying capacity increase, the use of compensation chains becomes an important requirement for balanced system operation.
